TECHNICAL TRAINING SCHEDULE

FILM CAMERA 101

4 Sessions

INSTRUCTOR

Touchaingkong Yang

Learn the basic elements of DSLR camera use, sound recording, and vocabulary.  Participants will build and expand their knowledge of the digital film process, and build a foundation for visual expression through moving images.

Each session will include a short lecture or demonstration, creative practice and time for questions and answers.

January 29 February 1 & 6

Kang Vang

Learn the basic process for taking a film idea to script and storyboard. Filmmaker Kang Vang will cover as follows:

1) Basic Story Structure

2) Exercises making up stories to pitch to a Producer.

3) Script Outline

4) Storyboarding

Each session will include a short lecture or demonstration, creative practice and time for questions and answers.

Adobe premiere basics

Learn the basic process for editing a film using professional editing software. Filmmaker Dan Yaj will provide 4 sessions dedicated to:

1) Starting a Project

2) Editing - Cut / Sequence

3) Color Adjustments

4) Visual Effects

Each session will include a short lecture or demonstration, creative practice and time for questions and answers.

AUDIO SWEETENING

This is the place to be to develop your skills as a practicing spoken word artist, singer, sound engineer or beat maker.  Come together and learn from some amazing musicians.  Share, collaborate, and create.  

Mentorships are designed to provide intensive critique and guidance to NEXUS participants seeking to advance their aesthetic storytelling ability.

Mentorships are rigorous and require a commitment to attending 6 sessions.  General activities focus on participant presentation, critique and practice in writing and production planning.  

In order to participate in mentorship sessions you must first meet with NEXUS staff and develop a set of concrete learning goals that you will work on during mentorship.   

These sessions are open to the public but pre-registration is required as each session will be capped at 8 participants.

Hone your skills in the art of narrative film creation, screenwriting and production planning from leading Minnesota filmmaker Kang Vang.  This mentorship series is dedicated pushing career minded artists from story concept into a tangible action plan.

Mentorships are designed to provide intensive critique and guidance to NEXUS participants seeking to advance their aesthetic storytelling ability.

Mentorships are rigorous and require a commitment to attending 6 sessions. General activities focus on participant presentation, critique and practice in writing and production planning.

In order to participate in mentorship sessions you must first meet with NEXUS staff and develop a set of concrete learning goals that you will work on during the mentorship.   

These sessions are open to the public but pre-registration is required.  Each session will be capped at 8 participants.
