Portraits of Recovery

Red Lake Tribal College - Red Lake / circa 2021

The videos presented on this page feature MARS Counselors that work for Red Lake Chemical Health. They have all generously shared their stories in support of those seeking insight into the many different paths to sobriety. This collection features one collective video documentary presented above, as well as three individual stories. The views presented belong uniquely to the persons featured in this series and depict how they use culture, traditional practices, and the teachings of others to help them stay sober.

Portraits of Recovery was produced by Reyna Lussier and directed by Karen Barrett, who were supported by In Progress artists.

The videos depict how the featured individuals use culture, traditional practices and the teachings of others to help them stay sober. Each person now works as a counselor in Red Lake Medication Assisted Recovery Services. The videos were produced by Red Lake Chemical Health with support from In Progress, through a contract with DHS using funds provided by the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.

Funding made possible through a grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Nothing in this video constitutes a direct or indirect endorsement by SAMHSA of content, services, or policies.

All videos provide closed captioning and if you scroll further down the page, viewers can access each video with audio description for those that are sight impaired. Links to the videos also are on the Minnesota Department of Human Services website.
