Schoua Na Vang
As a Hmong Queer Artist, I may not receive the opportunities as heterosexual artists. I have to work a lot harder without breaking who I am as an artist. I see sometimes Queer artists front who they are in order to fit in. I just don’t agree. I rather stand out being me us. - tainting the truth.
I sing, rap, play a variety of instruments. I grew up listening to Thai rock music, to American K-Hop, Chinese & Hmong. My influences are my family, my experiences, and music artist Lauryn Hill. Stories in song motivate me. I feel connected to experiences. To breathe, to be heard, knowing sharing my experiences could help someone else who is also struggling is one of my primary goals. That, and to know that I matter to myself and deserve to exist.
