BIOGRAPHY

Alexis “Lex” Cheng is a dynamic storyteller, creative visionary, and community advocate whose work bridges cultural preservation, gender equity, and Hmong American identity. Born and raised in Minnesota, Lex draws deep inspiration from her lived experience as a Hmong woman navigating both traditional and contemporary worlds. She is the co-founder and co-host of the Modern Hmong Girl podcast, a powerful platform that amplifies the voices and stories of Hmong women, offering unapologetic conversations about healing, identity, and empowerment.

With a professional background in nonprofit leadership and grassroots organizing, Lex brings a bold yet heart-centered approach to every project she leads. Her work is grounded in a desire to reclaim narratives, create intergenerational dialogue, and build spaces where women of color—especially Hmong women—can thrive authentically. Whether she’s leading community programs, producing media content, or hosting public dialogues, Lex is committed to co-creating environments where truth-telling and transformation are not only welcomed but celebrated.

Creatively, Lex approaches her craft with a blend of intuition, curiosity, and purpose. Her storytelling process often begins with real-life experiences—conversations in the community, deeply felt emotions, and the raw, everyday struggles and triumphs of those around her. She believes creativity is a tool for connection and transformation—a way to spark empathy, healing, and self-discovery.

Her artistic style is rooted in authenticity, cultural nuance, and emotional depth. Influenced by the resilience of Hmong women, the power of shared memory, and the complexities of diasporic identity, Lex weaves together traditional values with modern perspectives. Whether working in audio, writing, or visual media, her work is as much about personal expression as it is about collective storytelling. Her creative mission is to challenge dominant narratives, honor ancestral knowledge, and inspire others to live, speak, and create without apology.
