I’m A Tîa

This video follows Miracle Espericueta , a young auntie, who steps into a caregiving role early in life, balancing school, work, and family while helping raise her niece and nephews. She reflects on the joy of witnessing their first milestones alongside the fear and heartbreak of protecting them from bullying and discrimination. Through sacrifice, guidance, and unwavering presence, she embodies the role of a second mother—teaching kindness, resilience, and the importance of doing the right thing.

I became an auntie when I was thirteen years old. I was nervous because of our skin color and how people might treat them at school. When my niece comes home from school, she sometimes tells me she gets bullied. It makes me nervous because there’s not much you can really do. You can tell the school, but sometimes it feels like they don’t do much about it either.

I tell her to ignore them, or to say, “That’s not nice,” and walk away. Sometimes the best thing to do is walk away or tell a teacher.
