the waterers

gathering to watch and discuss the movies that inspire us

Every year, I wait for the ground to thaw, and for spring to make its way so I can spend my days growing food and medicine in my garden. I migrated from Laos many years ago with my husband. The North End has been home since we came to the United States. —Chia Xiong

The Waterers Project is a community centered campaign dedicated to informing the public on watersheds and waterways through a collection of shared elder stories on their relationship with water.  This project is embedded in the idea that our elders are waterers carrying history and knowledge.  Through collecting elder stories, we can understand how their relationships with water enriches our lives. Between March and October 2024, In progress will bring together people tat want to develop their skills as storytellers in the world of elder stories.

Sai Thao, is a digital artist and community educator will lead 10 community members (youth and adults) through a process of sharing and collecting elder stories on their relationship with water with digital photo and video shorts.  As part of this project, participants will visit local watersheds and waterways, and listen to stories shared by guest speakers.  Then participants will gather and share what they have learned through the creation of photo and video works that will be presented publicly in digital and print form.
