BIOGRAPHY

I'm Jacob Her, a filmmaker based in the St. Paul area. I graduated from the University of Minnesota Duluth with a degree in Digital Arts & Photography – Studio Arts, along with a minor in Film.

My current work leans toward a "slice of life" style, often rooted in realism. I draw inspiration from cultural experiences and environmental influences whether my own or those of others. A big part of my creative process is exploring the everyday in ways that feel emotionally honest. I'm drawn to stories that reflect lived experiences personal or shared and that open up space for connection and conversation through that realism.

Though most of my work seems to lean toward realism, I’d still love to explore other genres like a science fiction Interstellar story, or a ‘90s horror-esque film like A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Just as important as creating, I also want to help build a space for other artists like us, artists who share the drive to express their authentic selves through their work and in turn hope to transform that passion into a sustainable career. Being part of spaces like In Progress gives me room to grow and connect with others who are simply trying to tell stories through their art that feel true to them. It’s in those kinds of spaces that are honest, supportive, and creative where the most meaningful work can really take shape.
