JACOB HER
Conergence filmmaker
BIOGRAPHY
Jacob Her is a filmmaker and visual artist based in Saint Paul, Minnesota. A graduate of the University of Minnesota Duluth, Jacob holds a degree in Digital Arts and Photography – Studio Arts, along with a minor in Film. His work explores storytelling through an intimate, grounded lens, often shaped by cultural and environmental experiences.
Jacob’s artistic style leans toward slice-of-life realism, with an emphasis on emotionally honest narratives. Whether reflecting his own lived experiences or drawing from those around him, his films aim to capture the subtle details of everyday life. He believes in the power of visual storytelling to spark conversation, foster empathy, and create space for connection.
While realism continues to be a core part of his creative identity, Jacob remains open to new genres and approaches. He is particularly drawn to the idea of creating a science fiction epic in the vein of Interstellar, or exploring nostalgic horror aesthetics inspired by films like A Nightmare on Elm Street. This genre curiosity reflects his desire to challenge himself while remaining rooted in authentic narrative expression.
In addition to his personal filmmaking, Jacob is passionate about cultivating supportive artistic communities. He believes in creating opportunities for emerging artists to collaborate, experiment, and grow together. His involvement with In Progress has provided a vital space to connect with like-minded creators, and he sees it as a key part of his journey toward a sustainable career in the arts.
