BIOGRAPHY

Yer Her is an educator, artist, and cultural advocate dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Hmong language and identity. He currently teaches Hmong Literacy, History, and Culture, and is passionate about helping students build a strong foundation in their heritage and language. Yer earned both his Bachelor of Science and Master of Education degrees in Elementary Education from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, equipping him with the pedagogical tools to bridge cultural knowledge and academic achievement in the classroom.

Beyond his role as an educator, Yer is also an accomplished artist working in both film and stage performance. He uses creative expression as a means to amplify Hmong voices and explore themes of identity, resilience, and community.

For over four years, Yer has volunteered as the Executive Director of the Pahauh Institute, where he has led efforts to preserve and teach the Pahauh Hmong script—an indigenous writing system created specifically for the Hmong language. Through community-based instruction and cultural programming, he has played a vital role in revitalizing literacy in Pahauh and strengthening the cultural pride of the Hmong community.

Yer's work—whether in the classroom, behind the camera, or on stage—is grounded in a deep commitment to cultural preservation, education, and creative storytelling.
