Biography

Jibra’il Ibraheem, who goes by “gb.”, creatively and casually found his craft through the discovery of self, purpose, and passions. gb. endeavors to explore what makes him stand out, and believes that it is his truth that sets him apart.

The letters in his stage name gb. stand for “Gangster Bohemian” & is his way of acknowledging his own multidimensional duality. gb. identifies as an artist of an esteem that can only be derived out of love. He formerly used the stage name “IMAME.”

Being innately unconventional, his sound has been described by others as experimental. gb. describes his approach to music-making as “expressions rooted in the culture of Hip Hop, and the greater pan-African diaspora.”

With writing being his strong suit for over 10 years now, he has honed his skills as a poet, lyricist, and songwriter. He has learned a lot from community mentors and is also a self-taught artist. gb. finds his purpose in being a teaching artist as well, with a mission for sharing positive messaging and uplifting others.

Giving much of the credit for his sounds and tastes up to his parents and household, his multi-cultural roots are elevated and conveyed as a Black Man with compassion for the human experience. Representing his core values, including highest-self vibration, gb. is proud to call himself an emcee with chops in production.
