BIOGRAPHY

Qin Jiang is an artist and aspiring filmmaker based in Minneapolis, whose practice is rooted in storytelling, movement, and visual exploration. Their connection to the In Progress community began through participation in Sound Healing sessions, where they found a supportive and grounded environment that continues to shape their artistic development. Qin approaches filmmaking as a space to integrate their various experiences and passions, including traditional Chinese dance, writing, photography, and graphic design.

Qin has created several short videos, primarily for YouTube, using these projects as opportunities to experiment with form, tone, and technique. One piece they continue to reflect on is a short, observational “day in the life” video, where they intuitively followed light, color, texture, and movement rather than a fixed plan. Through that process, they discovered a strong attraction to natural elements and how these details can shape mood and meaning. This experience continues to inform their evolving approach to filmmaking, where instinct and sensory awareness play a central role.

Qin’s creative philosophy embraces imperfection and openness. They view each piece of work, whether it be writing, photography, design, or movement, as part of an ongoing process rather than a finished product. While they are committed to learning the technical foundations of filmmaking, they remain mindful of not becoming constrained by rigid rules, instead prioritizing authenticity and personal vision.

Their influences reflect a deep appreciation for emotionally resonant storytelling and visual composition. Films such as The Farewell, To Live, Moonlight, and August Rush have shaped their understanding of character, atmosphere, and narrative depth. Qin is particularly drawn to works that engage the body, environment, and natural elements as storytelling tools.

As they continue to grow, Qin is interested in creating films that bring together multiple art forms, blending movement, image, sound, and design into cohesive, immersive experiences. Their work aims to evoke emotion, spark reflection, and create space for stories that are both personal and shared.
