Mickies Kiros

Filmmaker / photograher / teaching artist

With an interest in creative writing and storytelling, I’ve always had the urge to try and put to words my ideas and unique lens of how I see the world around me. Always seeking to find inspiration around me, I am now learning to hone my skills of story and narrative writing. This desire to develop my writing has pushed me to attend multiple writing workshops and study and draw from all forms of art as I meet more and more creatives and writers throughout the Twin Cities.

Being raised in an Ethiopian household, I hold tight to my roots and explore them in various ways; this naturally translates to my writing as well and I often find inspiration from childhood experiences, music, and traditions. In addition, traveling is something that helps me find inspiration in the world around me. One solo trip to Panama last summer in particular helped me find the time to soak in everything around me and write in awe of my travels. This played a vital role in me taking my writing more seriously and beginning to understand my lens and perspective. I still draw energy from that memory and look forward to creating more inspiring moments of growth and exploration through my travels.
