Tong Lee

Tong Lee is a Minneapolis-based filmmaker who has been active in the film scene since 2010. He became involved in filmmaking as a way to create opportunities for youth, recognizing the powerful influence media holds in shaping perspectives and inspiring change. Since 2013, he has been an integral part of the Qhia Dab Neeg program, where he has contributed to elevating community storytelling and mentoring emerging filmmakers.

Qualifications

Over the years, Tong has built a diverse body of experience by collaborating with a range of organizations and creatives, including KARE11, Standy Production, Urban Mountain Media, and many other independent filmmakers. These varied projects have allowed him to grow both technically and artistically, while reinforcing his commitment to sharing his knowledge with others. He believes deeply in supporting the next generation of storytellers and takes pride in helping young people find their voice through film.

Tong continues to explore and refine his own creative style and influences, drawn to stories of resilience and people who refuse to lose hope. He is especially motivated by the opportunity to inspire youth and offer guidance to those who need it most. For Tong, filmmaking is more than a craft—it is a vital means of self-expression, allowing him to communicate ideas and emotions that transcend words. As he continues his journey in film, he remains dedicated to learning, teaching, and using his art to strengthen and uplift his community.
