QUARANTINE CURRICULUM / LIGHTING 101

In Progress artist Tomas Leal has pulled together introductory lighting lessons for aspiring photographers. He reviewed several sites, and determined the following lessons would ground most of our artists in some clear foundations in crafting photographic images in the digital era.

LESSON 1: LIGHTING TECHNIQUES

This video explains 5 lighting techniques using just 1 light set up.

LESSON 2: THREE Point Lighting

This video explains the 3 Point light set-up, the distance ratio that should be placed between each light, and the positioning of each light when shooting portraits.

Tomas Leal is a commercial photographer with an expertise in portraiture and event photography.  He is a founding artist of In Progress having started with the Fresh Voices program in 1996.   Tomas now leads In Progress's Family Portrait sessions, photographing hundreds of families each year.

Tomas Leal is well known for his technical expertise and understanding of the practice of lighting.   He currently teaches adult artist in our NEXUS program and mentors youth and adults in camera technique and lighting.
