Keira Matthews
filmmaker / photographer
BIOGRAPHY
Keira Matthews is an emerging Anishinaabe media artist from the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe, whose creative journey began at an early age. By the time she was 11, Keira had already started making short films—many of which have gone on to screen internationally at film festivals and museums. Her work reflects a commitment to storytelling that centers Indigenous identity, lived experience, and creative resilience.
Currently, Keira is deepening her artistic and community-based practice through a teaching artist training program with In Progress. As she develops her skills as both a media maker and educator, Keira continues to explore the intersections of activism, cultural identity, and artistic expression.
Qualifications
Keira is trained in DSLR camera operation for both photography and video production, and has experience in screenwriting for short-form media. She is a developing teaching artist with a growing background in youth mentorship and arts education. As an Indigenous activist and cultural worker, she brings both lived experience and creative insight to her storytelling and community engagement.
