Magdalene mcclun
multimedia artist
BIOGRAPHY
Magdalene McClun is a multimedia artist based in Minneapolis whose work bridges visual, musical, and performative disciplines. A graduate of the University of Minnesota with a degree in Design and Illustration, Magdalene creates immersive, multisensory experiences that weave together elements of music, large-scale mural painting, wearable art, poetry, and theatrical performance. Her creative practice is rooted in collaboration and community engagement, often staging events that bring people together through shared artistic exploration.
At the heart of Magdalene’s work is an ongoing investigation into contradiction—how opposing forces such as joy and sorrow, beauty and grotesqueness, or light and darkness coexist and inform one another. Her visual art features vividly colored forms that cradle melancholic or monstrous characters, evoking a tension that is both unsettling and tender. This same duality is reflected in her musical compositions, where she seamlessly blends genres such as blues, R&B, folk, and electronic to build textured, emotionally rich soundscapes.
Magdalene’s artwork has been exhibited and performed in a variety of local and national venues including the Quarter Gallery, the May Day Café, the Weisman Art Museum, The Danna Gallery, and the MAPC Zine Conference in Utah. She most recently performed at the Uptown Porch Festival in Minneapolis. Her artistic contributions have been recognized with several awards, including the Joel and Aja Scholarship for Ceramics, the Lillian Lindsten Scholarship for young women in the arts, and the Kutzik Family Scholarship for her achievements in visual storytelling.
