Magdalene mcclun
BIOGRAPHY
Magdalene McClun is a multimedia artist from Minneapolis. She graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in design and illustration. Her passion is in creating immersive community events and experiences that combine a variety of mediums including musical performance, masks and wearable art, large mural pieces, and poetry. In a lot of her work, Magdalene explores the theme of contradiction, how seemingly opposites, dark and light, inherently intertwine. In her visual art she creates creatures that are melancholic and grotesque yet held by a vibrantly colorful form. In her music she similarly explores these contrasting dualities through combining a variety of genres and sounds from blues, to R&B, to folk to electronic. Magdalene has had her work exhibited at the Quarter gallery, the May Day Cafe, The Weisman Art Museum, The Danna Gallery, MAPC Zine Conference in Utah, and most recently performed at the Uptown Porch Festival in Minneapolis. She has received the Joel and Aja Scholarship grant for ceramics, the Lillian Lindsten Scholarship for young women, and the Kutzik Family scholarship for her art.
