BIOGRAPHY

Houa Moua is a multidisciplinary artist and storyteller based in Saint Paul, Minnesota. A longtime admirer of In Progress, she brings to her creative journey years of quiet observation, deep curiosity, and a strong desire to explore the power of storytelling across a range of physical and digital mediums. Whether through stage performance, podcasting, videography, or emerging platforms like YouTube, Houa is committed to amplifying untold narratives—especially those rooted in the Hmong experience.

Houa’s artistic roots were first expressed on stage in Face to Face: Hmong Women’s Experiences, a spoken word theater production staged at Park Square Theater in March 2020. As part of the final performance before the COVID-19 shutdown, her work in the show became a powerful timestamp—marking both a personal milestone and a moment of global transition. Since then, she has continued to write, reflect, and refine her voice as a performer and storyteller.

Currently, Houa is developing a script and documentary that centers the lives and stories of three Hmong women with disabilities living in Saint Paul. This project reflects her growing interest in disability justice, intersectionality, and community-based storytelling. Through this lens, she hopes to elevate voices that are often overlooked, and to shape narratives that move beyond stereotypes and surface-level representation.

With aspirations to act, direct, and write for both stage and screen, Houa sees storytelling as a lifelong path of learning, healing, and transformation. She is especially excited about exploring new formats—like podcasting and video-based platforms—as tools for sharing stories that resonate on both personal and collective levels. Her ultimate goal is to continue writing for herself and others, with the hope of bringing these works into the public sphere when the time is right.
