In 2025, our North End neighborhood began coming together in a collective effort to support one another. Good things are happening. Neighbors are learning more about each other, and many are stepping forward to protect, inform, and offer support where they can. We are new to this work. We are a volunteer effort. And together we are laying the groundwork for what will grow into a strong, community-driven support system for the nearly 24,000 people who live and work here.

Below we have listed some general information about how we are presently organizing.

  • This group exists to connect neighbors, share information, and coordinate support so that residents, families, and local businesses in the North End can respond to challenges together. Our goal is to strengthen relationships and build a community-led network of care that helps ensure no one has to navigate difficult moments alone.

  • Our work is organized through Response Teams and Systems Teams, each with distinct roles. Response Teams address immediate and emerging community needs, while Systems Teams maintain the communication channels, tools, and processes that support coordinated action.

Each team leads its own planning process and shares updates with the larger group in three areas: Actions (steps being taken), What’s Next (current priorities), and Asks (requests for information, assistance, or resources). This structure allows teams to work independently while staying aligned and informed.

  • The following roles describe how volunteers contribute their time, skills, and coordination to support the community response effort.

    • Team Members: Groups of people working together toward a shared function or objective. These teams self-organize but report back to larger teams with progress reports and needs. •

    • Leads: Individuals responsible for coordinating a team’s work and ensuring accountability. •

    • Navigators: Individuals who provide follow-up support and help others move through systems, referrals, and longer-term processes. • Connectors Connectors who communicate between teams, community, or external partners to ensure trusting relationships are established and communication flows in both directions.

    • Crews: Task-focused groups mobilized to complete specific, often short-term, operational activities.

    • Coordinators: Individuals responsible for organizing people, information, and activities across teams to ensure efforts are aligned, communication is clear, and actions move forward efficiently and consistently.

    • Specialists: Individuals or groups that bring specific skills and expertise to building, troubleshooting, and strengthening processes and services.

    • First Responders: Individual or a small team that addresses urgent or unexpected needs in real time by assessing situations quickly, troubleshooting barriers, and directing people to appropriate support or resources.

  • These are the teams that are currently operating or have been identified as needed:

System Teams support the overall community response by building and maintaining the tools, processes, and communication channels that help response teams operate effectively. Click on the link below for further detail:
