BIOGRAPHY
Joel Passewe is a photographer and videographer based in Saint Paul, Minnesota, who has been an active artist with In Progress for the past two years. His creative journey began in 2019 through a community program at the McDonough Recreation Center, where he trained under the mentorship of Tomas Leal, Tiana LaPointe, and Kristine Sorensen. This experience gave him his first opportunities to explore the technical and artistic side of photography and videography while learning to use visual storytelling as a powerful tool for self-expression and community connection.
Following his graduation from the program, Joel continued his development through one-on-one mentorships with Tomas Leal, who played a pivotal role in sharpening his technical and artistic foundation. Under Tomas’s guidance, Joel expanded his knowledge of camera operations, editing software, and creative processes, building a strong base for both freelance work and personal projects.
As a freelance artist, Joel has contributed his skills to a range of projects in photography and videography, bringing a sharp eye for detail and a dedication to capturing authentic stories and moments. He is committed to growing as a media artist, exploring innovative ways to use visual art to reflect personal narratives and uplift his community.
Qualifications
Joel is skilled in DSLR photography, with a particular focus on portraiture and event photography. He has experience using Adobe Bridge editing software to organize and enhance his visual work. In addition, Joel has developed knowledge of wheat paste exhibiting, using this medium to share creative works in public spaces. His growing expertise across photography, videography, and editing reflects both his technical abilities and his passion for continued artistic growth.
