BIOGRAPHY

My name is Kaia Perez and I’m from St. Paul, Minnesota. I mostly do traditional art, focusing on character concept and design.  I have taken summer classes under MCAD, the first one was a comic art class and the second one was a character design course.

I started drawing at around ten years old, just because it was fun and I was inspired by all the shows that I watched. When illustrating I focus a lot on the color scheme, trying not to use too much of the same color by using different tones, and using complementary colors. I want to explore more with creating full scenes with characters in them, the main focus being on the background.Some inspirations/artists I follow online are; Kasey Golden, an illustrator on YouTube who mainly works with watercolor but has videos testing out different mediums. Her art style uses shapes and exaggerated features to make. Rem, who is the illustrator for the webcomic Devil’s Candy. I like her character designs, the way she illustrates expressions, as well as her digital pieces. I enjoy the overall aesthetic of her art, most of that coming from the color pallet. I also like Caffstrink (formerly lowua) who is a digital artist on Tumblr. I admire the color pallets in their pieces as well as their character designs. I want people to see how much of myself I put in each piece that I do, how much effort I put in and how much I enjoy the process of creating art.
