BIOGRAPHY

I would say I’d introduce myself as Selena, but I feel like it wouldn’t be right. Most people know me by Lena. I’ll tell you the difference.

See, Selena is just a lady in her mid 20’s living in downtown Minneapolis working two jobs just trying to get by. Whereas Lena, is an upcoming photographer that is always willing to learn more, taking chances at every opportunity given to her even if it’s outside her comfort zone.

This love for photography grew from actually wanting to become a model. As I was experimenting with different photographers, I actually grew to wanting to learn more about being behind the lens instead of being in front.

I remember the first camera I got was a canon rebel t6i that ended up being the best find at a random thrift store! I started with asking friends to be my model just to post here and there and you know the power of social media these days. Eventually, friends had connections to other photographers and stylists that wanted to do collaborations. Some shoots were for fun and for exposure, some were for events, maybe even a cover for a single.

My love for digital photography eventually grew into exploring film. Yes, both terms when I say film. Film photography and also cinematography/short films. I just love capturing the “vibe” of every moment. It honestly gives me nostalgia producing film because it reminds me of the disposables. Even looking through my mom’s photo album. I’ve always wondered what type of camera the person was using to shoot these pictures back in the late 80’s/90’s.

With filmmaking, I’ve always wanted to have another way to express my love for this field. People can see me/my work but can they actually feel me? hear me? That’s what I’ve always thought was important was just getting the mood across. This is who Lena is and I’m excited to express that through this mentorship.
