Kristine Sorensen is the founder and Executive Director of In Progress, a pioneering digital arts organization committed to amplifying underrepresented voices through creative expression and skill-building. A practicing teaching artist since 1987, Kristine has dedicated her career to democratizing access to the digital arts. Over the past three decades, she has designed and implemented numerous innovative program models that bring digital media education to youth, adult artists, and educators in communities across Minnesota and beyond.
Known for her commitment to mentorship, Kristine has supported countless emerging artists in finding their voices and building careers in digital media. Many of her students have gone on to become changemakers themselves, breaking barriers and redefining the field of digital art making. Her work is grounded in the belief that creative expression is not only a personal journey but also a powerful tool for community empowerment and social change.
Kristine’s leadership has helped In Progress become a trusted space for artistic growth, community connection, and cultural storytelling. Her contributions have been recognized with honors such as the Jerome Foundation Travel Study Award, the Saint Paul Leadership in Neighborhoods (LIN) Award, and the Sally Arts Initiative Award. She continues to be a passionate advocate for equitable access to the arts, working to ensure that artists from all backgrounds have the resources and opportunities they need to thrive.
QUALIFICATIONS
Kristine Sorensen is an accomplished filmmaker, photographer, and producer with 38 years of experience teaching digital media arts. She has deep expertise as a teaching artist, delivering workshops and residencies that span video production, photography, and digital storytelling. As Executive Director, she brings executive-level administrative, financial, and management skills to leading a nonprofit arts organization, ensuring its sustainability and impact.
Kristine is also an experienced program developer, having created and refined numerous educational models tailored to diverse communities. A skilled grant writer, she has secured essential funding to support programs and opportunities for emerging artists. Her career reflects a holistic blend of creative practice, educational leadership, and nonprofit management, making her a respected leader in the digital arts and community arts education fields.
