DIGITAL ART MAKING IN THE RURAL NORTHWEST

In Progress has partnered with the community of Crookston Minnesota since its inception in 1996. Today we now operate a digital arts studio and exhibit space offering workshops, immersive arts training, and community activities. Most of our activities take place May - September, but there are still a few activities on our scheduling for the winter season as follows:

THE HARVEST PREMIERE - NOVEMBER 10th / Grand Theatre

The Harvest is a documentary about an annual beet harvest that has taken place annually since the early 1900s.  The video presents a story of the sugar beet harvest, not from a land owner’s point of view, but from the view of people who have provided the labor force for more than five generations – primarily Latinx migrants and their descendants.  The film presents the economic impact of the beet harvest, generational teachings, and insight into how the Latinx community finds commonality and a sense of place in the act of participating in the harvest.  READ MORE

tIÅS EXHIBIT

The Tias exhibit presents images that were created by developing artists of all ages, as part of a series of workshops examining how we demonstrate the love of family. The workshop was led by IP artist Bienvenida Matias and supported by IP artists Kristine Sorensen and Sai Thao. Participants explored the art of portraiture. READ MORE.

Honor EXHIBIT

The Honor exhibit presents images that were created by developing artists of all ages, as part of a series of workshops examining how we demonstrate honor to ourselves. The workshop was led by IP artist Sai Thao and supported by IP artist Kristine Sorensen. Participants explored the art of portraiture and also took on the work of creating concept based photo work. OPEN LABS

TENTATIVE 2025 Programming

Digital Kids

Digital Kids is an introductory workshop to the art of digital storytelling dedicated to children age 12 and under and supporting family members. Participants work in family units to write a story that they then illustrate using cameras, audio equipment and iMovie editing software. This is an introductory level workshop designed to introduce basic storytelling concepts that is centered within the values of the families participating. READ MORE.

PODCAStING 101

Podcasting 101 is an introductory workshop for those interested in creating their own podcasts Learn how to structure a story, conduct interviews, record and edit. Begin the process of making your own podcast program and join others in learning and sharing. The workshop is open to ages 12 through adulthood. READ MORE.

THE ART OF MAKING MUSIC

The Art of Making Music is a 2 day workshop in the art of songwriting, performance and mixing. THe workshop is open to ages 12 through adult and is dedicated to anyone with a curiosity about how music comes in to being and is shared. participants will get hands-on experience with the latest music tech and learn the secrets of creating an unforgettable sound! The Storytellers

Storytellers is a hands-on digital storytelling workshop for youth and adults. The workshop offers a deep dive into finding purposeful stories and then finding creative ways to produce those stories through the art forms of photography and video. The workshop is fluid, with limited formal instruction, and a heavy emphasis on small group mentorship. READ MORE.

Bring your dreams to life through the art of photography. This weekend workshop led by IP artist Tomas Leal takes participants through a creative storytelling process using photography, art making and environmental design to prepare epic style photos with a story. READ MORE.
