Jacky Thao is a Minneapolis-based musician, composer, producer, and vocalist known for his emotionally resonant compositions and genre-blending sound. A lifelong artist committed to mastering his craft, Jacky began teaching himself piano at the age of 10. His early dedication led him to pursue formal musical training at Augsburg University, where he studied for four years and refined his skills in both classical and contemporary music.
Jacky’s artistry draws from a wide range of musical traditions, including Hmong music, jazz, funk, electronic, and city pop. His compositions explore bold new sonic landscapes while honoring cultural roots, making his work both innovative and deeply personal. With over a decade of experience on piano, he has performed with small and large ensembles, regularly playing live jazz at Augsburg and venues throughout the Minneapolis music scene, including Jazz Central Studios.
In addition to his ensemble work, Jacky is an accomplished solo performer and recording artist. He writes, arranges, and produces original music that reflects his own emotional experiences and desire to connect with listeners on a deeper level.
