BIOGRAPHY

Bao Vue is a filmmaker, community healer, and story-sharer based in the Twin Cities. As an aunt, artist, and cultural organizer, Bao brings deep care and intentionality to her work, using storytelling as a vehicle for healing, justice, and visibility. Her creative practice centers the lived experiences of women, people of color, immigrants and refugees, and queer communities—lifting up voices too often left unheard.

Bao's work blends personal narrative with social commentary, with a focus on trauma recovery, intergenerational healing, and cultural nuance. She is currently developing a powerful documentary exploring depression and suicide within the Asian American community in the Twin Cities, and is in the early stages of writing a feature-length screenplay that examines anti-Blackness within Hmong communities. In addition to her filmmaking, Bao also facilitates healing peace circles for women-identifying individuals, creating spaces for vulnerability, reflection, and collective support.

A former New Angle Fellow with Saint Paul Neighborhood Network (SPNN), Bao was also awarded the Artist Neighborhood Partnership Initiative (ANPI) grant in 2019 from the Center for Urban and Regional Affairs (CURA). Her creative growth has been deeply supported by In Progress, where she has developed both her artistic vision and technical skills in digital storytelling.

Outside of filmmaking, Bao finds joy in photography, sewing, and spontaneous karaoke sessions. Her nephews and her yellow lab, Zen, keep her grounded and playful—reminding her to stay connected to love and joy even while doing emotionally intense work.
