BIOGRAPHY
The Hmong Women Podcast was established, January 2024, by three Hmong women with intentions to create space for conversations often deemed taboo or unconventional in the community. We each come from similar backgrounds having grown up as Hmong women. However, we provide unique perspectives having walked different paths growing up in the community.
Ariel, the eldest daughter of her family, is an entrepreneur, published author, and has an educational background in Healthcare Management. Emily, a middle child of a large family, works in the field of policy involving family and children and has an extensive educational background in Family Science.
Douchi, an only child until February of this year, comes from a traditional household and is in the field of higher education. Together, we share with our audience a mix of the experiences we each hold from our professional lives, with the realities of our upbringings. Our intention is to open conversations typically deemed taboo, and often brushed under the rug. We wholeheartedly believe in the values of authenticity, honesty, vulnerability, progressiveness, growth, community, and courage.
Our mission is to not only bring these values to the forefront but also inspire our listeners and viewers to embrace them in their own lives. Within one year’s worth of time, we’ve made extensive progress with our platform and have built a strong community of supporters. We are currently on all streaming platforms, YouTube, Spotify, Facebook,
TikTok, and Instagram. Our numbers across all platforms are quickly rising and we could not be more thankful of the community and their support. We initially started off recording our content using zoom. However, the quality was far from decent. We progressed into using our personal cell devices/smart phones and have been doing so since our second recording session. As well, we are currently utilizing our personal home and space as our “recording studio”. Wrapping up our one year, we intend to upgrade our quality to provide better content to our viewers and listeners.
We’ve considered renting out studio space and purchasing cameras etc. However, that is financially difficult for us as a new team. Additionally, determining what equipment is best to invest in is also a struggle and a big commitment.
We are hoping with In Progress’ guidance, we can grow in terms of content quality. We hope to learn better recording techniques, better stage setups, and more!
