Gerald White is an esteemed elder, educator, and cultural leader from the Leech Lake Reservation. A Vietnam Veteran, Gerald has dedicated his life to service—both to his country and to his community. Drawing on his deep roots in Ojibwe traditions and values, he has spent decades developing and leading programs designed to strengthen cultural knowledge, promote wellness, and support the growth of his community.

Gerald is widely respected as a traditionalist and teacher who is committed to preserving and sharing Ojibwe knowledge and practices with the next generation. He believes strongly in the importance of intergenerational learning and has worked tirelessly to create opportunities for youth to connect with their heritage in meaningful, hands-on ways. Whether through formal education, community gatherings, or one-on-one mentoring, Gerald brings wisdom, humility, and a deep sense of responsibility to his role as a cultural educator and leader.

Qualifications

Gerald White is a certified teacher with extensive experience in curriculum development, program leadership, and cultural education. As an Ojibwe traditionalist, he possesses in-depth knowledge of traditional practices, ceremonies, and teachings, which he shares generously with youth and community members.

His background as a Vietnam Veteran informs his disciplined, service-oriented approach to community engagement. Gerald has successfully designed and implemented numerous programs that center cultural revitalization, wellness, and education for the Leech Lake Reservation. His lifelong commitment to teaching and mentoring reflects both his expertise and his dedication to ensuring the survival and vitality of Ojibwe traditions for generations to come.
