Chufue Yang

singer / musician / actor

Biography

Chufue Yang is a first-generation Hmong American creative based in Minnesota whose artistic voice is rooted in transition, identity, and emotional reflection. His passion for music began at the age of fourteen through choir and musical theatre, where he first discovered the power of harmony, performance, and storytelling. However, it was not until he moved to Chicago a month after graduating high school that his songwriting truly began to take shape. The relocation marked a pivotal moment in his life, one filled with both uncertainty and growth, and became a catalyst for deeper creative exploration.

His creative process is intimate and reflective, often beginning with journal-style lyric writing or spontaneous voice memos captured on his phone. Chufue has built a personal archive of said phone recordings, unreleased singles, and lyrical drafts that document his growth as a songwriter. His music is shaped by lived experience and emotional honesty, with a desire to eventually define a signature sound that feels both culturally grounded and personally authentic.

As he continues to develop, Chufue remains committed to expanding his technical and creative skills. He views each song as both a reflection of where he has been and a step toward where he is going.
