BIOGRAPHY

CYDI LIKE THE CITY sees themselves fluid as an artist, creator, tree hugger and coffee drinker. By nature she is awkward but confident, goofy but empathic and does her best to illuminate positive and healing energy into the world. She strives to create meaningful and healing content and services through music, writing, conversations and healing circles, and massage and bodywork to and for individuals who are seeking. She believes everyone and everything deserves respect and strives for a world that isn't afraid to love, a world where everyone and everything can exist vibrantly and thrive - A world with less labels–a world where happiness is centered.

Cydi initiated this campaign in 2018. Growing up and always feeling insecure and not “beautiful” enough for the beauty standards of society, and knowing that other women and girls struggle(ed) with the same issues, Cydi wanted to create a positive movement to encourage women to feel good and beautiful in their own bodies. They would take this sign to different events and take photos with people there and would take photos around the city in order to make a statement.

In 2020-21, with the social unrest from the murder of George Floyd, and Asian hate crimes, Cydi took part in different events which highlighted Black and Asian Solidarity. In times where there seemed to be a divide, there were many orgs, artists that wanted to come together to symbolize love, peace, and solidarity with one another.

Suab Nrov: Hear us now - Hmong women, queer, and trans concert

Cydi collaborated with Alicia Thao and Hillary Lor to organize a 2 series concert that occurred in Oct and Nov of 2022. They noticed how Hmong men were the dominant artists in the Hmong music scene and wanted to create a space to highlight Hmong women, queer and trans artists. Funded through the Springboard for the Arts, they were able to make this concert series possible.

Cedar Commissions 2022-23

This is Cydi’s most recent project, where she applied and received the Cedar Commissions grant along with 5 other artists to create original works of music/songs to perform in Feb 2023 at the Cedar Cultural Center. Their project is called “Soul Call,” and is a personal project where Cydi writes songs to younger/past versions of themself, to reclaim the pieces she lost during traumatic times and hardships in her life.
