BIOGRAPHY

Dan Yang was born and raised in Saint Paul, Minnesota, where his early academic path began in Economics. After completing a year of undergraduate study in the field, he realized that film had steadily become a central force in his life. This realization led him to pivot academically and professionally, pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Cinema Science at Columbia College Chicago.

During his time in Chicago, Dan immersed himself in both the technical and cultural dimensions of filmmaking. Recognizing a need for greater representation and collaboration among Hmong creatives, he founded the Hmong Filmmaker’s Guild, an initiative dedicated to advancing, connecting, and uplifting Hmong filmmakers. The guild served as both a creative collective and a support network, fostering dialogue, mentorship, and shared resources within the community.

In addition to community organizing, Dan launched his own production group, producing freelance video work while maintaining a strong emphasis on film education. His approach to media production blends craft with pedagogy, reflecting his belief that filmmaking is not only about content creation but also about knowledge sharing and cultural contribution.

As a graduate, Dan currently serves as Video Producer for the National Sports Center. In this role, he leads content creation across platforms, overseeing videography, editing, marketing integration, and creative curation. His work balances cinematic storytelling with strategic communication, ensuring that visual content aligns with broader brand and audience goals.

Looking ahead, Dan aspires to direct a feature-length film and author a book on cinema, further expanding his influence in both creative and intellectual spaces. His career reflects a blend of artistry, leadership, and commitment to cultural storytelling.
