BIOGRAPHY

Xia Yang is a writer, organizer, and creative professional based in Saint Paul, Minnesota. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Screenwriting from Metropolitan State University, where she developed her skills in narrative structure, storytelling, and creative writing. Building on that foundation, she is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Project Management from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, combining her creative background with strong organizational and leadership skills.

Xia’s interests span multiple creative and community-focused disciplines. She enjoys creative writing and photography as forms of storytelling and personal expression, often using these mediums to document experiences, capture moments, and explore ideas visually and narratively. Her love of travel further informs her creative perspective, exposing her to new environments, cultures, and stories that continue to shape her work.

In addition to her artistic pursuits, Xia has been deeply involved in community arts initiatives for more than a decade. Since 2012, she has played an active role in supporting the Qhia Dab Neeg Film Festival, a film festival dedicated to showcasing Hmong and Southeast Asian stories through film. Through her work with the festival, she has contributed to event coordination, programming support, and community engagement efforts, helping ensure that diverse stories and voices continue to reach wider audiences.

She is also experienced in community organizing, supporting collaborative initiatives such as cultural events, film festivals, and community-centered programming.
