Be Who You Are
In this video Regina Zapata reflects on being an auntie as the privilege of helping raise children with love, guidance, and the care of a second mother. Through memories of growing up surrounded by many aunties—especially one who modeled joy, authenticity, and acceptance—the speaker shares how these relationships shape values and identity. At its core, the story affirms the lesson passed down through generations: be yourself, lead with kindness, and don’t worry about what others think.
When I think about what an auntie is to me, I think about the privilege of helping to raise kids that are not yours. I think about the role model in a in a Tia. I think about being almost a second mother. At least that's how I see myself to my, nieces and nephews and how I saw my aunties growing up.
